2026 Girls Team Structure Announcement
Each year, our Operations Team faces the important, and sometimes tricky, decision of how to structure our girls teams for the season ahead. As a growing club, we don’t always have the numbers to field a standalone team in every single age group, so each season our structure is carefully based on confirmed registrations and projected sign-ups.
For the 2026 season, our girls teams will be structured as Under 11, Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18.
We are still finalising the structure of our younger 8–10 age group, which will become clearer as new registrations continue to come in over the coming weeks. We understand that transitions between age groups can sometimes feel disruptive, which is why we are working towards a longer-term structure that provides greater stability, stronger development focus, and ongoing club success.
We are incredibly fortunate this year to have a highly experienced and committed Operations Team who have invested significant time consulting with coaches and key people across each age group to ensure this structure not only works for 2026, but supports sustainable growth over the next few years. Our priority is simple, ensuring every girl has a team to play in, feels supported, and continues to develop her skills and confidence.
This season we will also be implementing a more structured coaching approach across our girls program to ensure consistent development at every level. We will have a strong voice at SMJFL grading meetings to advocate for our teams to be placed in the right division for their skill level, creating competitive and positive playing environments.
Importantly, we are continuing to strengthen our pathway from Auskick through to the Chargers, with closer alignment this year and a number of Chargers and senior players involved within our coaching teams. This connection will provide valuable mentorship, inspiration and clear development pathways for our girls.
We’re excited about the future of girls football at the Colts and can’t wait to see our teams take the field in 2026.
