Alliance Teams

The junior mixed / boys alliance teams are formed from Port Melbourne, South Melbourne and St. Kilda City players. The age level squads from U13 to U17.5 are co-branded, share home games, jumpers and a club song.

The alliance teams also focus on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship, all while fostering a love of the game in a fun and inclusive setting.

Players are placed in the appropriate age groups based on their date of birth. We ensure players are placed in teams that suit their skill level to ensure an enjoyable and challenging experience.

When and where is training?

Training is held at alternating grounds amongst the Alliance teams and may include drills for basic skills, game simulation, fitness exercises, and team-building activities. All players are expected to attend all training sessions unless precluded by school commitments, summer sports, genuine illness or holidays away from Melbourne. View training times.

U13+ Alliance teams will be notified of specific training times via WhatsApp.

What footy gear do I need?

All players need match day shorts, socks and footy boots. The club provides players with match day Alliance jumpers to be returned at the end of the season. Water bottles and mouth guards are required at all training sessions and match days.

U13+ Alliance teams will be notified of specific uniform needs via WhatsApp.

Do I have to volunteer?

Our club relies heavily on volunteers to help run its operations, coordinate events, support players, and ensure a positive and supportive environment for everyone involved. There are a wide range of volunteer roles to help ensure the smooth running of the club throughout the season. These roles can vary from game-day tasks to off-field support and behind-the-scenes duties.

All volunteers require a Working With Children certificate.

What are the benefits of playing ALF?

  • Confidence and empowerment: Kids involved in AFL develop leadership skills, teamwork, and confidence.
  • Community and social connections: Like other team sports, AFL fosters a sense of community and friendship, which can be very important in the developmental years.
